And he used to be such a nice, quiet boy

Neil Horan, the nutter strikes back, but does he have talent?

HoranHoran 2

As Dave Courtney once said:  I love a nutter, but I couldn’t eat a whole one.  What would he then make of defrocked priest Neil Horan?

This former clergyman from county Kerry, Republic of Ireland, has been making all kinds of headlines in recent years.   He started out normal enough building up a solid reputation as a clergyman.  But he grew more attracted to the Apostolic Fellowship of Christ.   He ran on to the track of the British Grand Prix in 2003, actually running towards cars racing at speeds of up to 150 mph.  This near suicidal move saw him arrested for aggravated trespass and jailed for two months.

See the clip here:

He didn’t learn his lesson.  The following year the police spotted him just in time at the Epsom Derby and took him into custody until after the race.  He is believed to have been planning to run in front of the horses.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics he ran on to the track during the men’s marathon and pushed the race leader, a startled Brazilian athlete called Vanderlai de Lima.  A scuffle broke out and Neil Horan was arrested again.  Mr De Lima completed the race in some difficulty, with leg strain.

By this time the Catholic church had had enough of the man and formally defrocked (fired) him.   It comes to something when the church sacks you because they think you are nuts.

Barely a year into his less-than-graceful retirement he was arrested during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.  They caught him just in time.  He had planned to do his peace dance outside the Berlin stadium and then light a candle for Hitler at the Gestapo headquarters.  Thankfully he was saved from the inevitable shoeing by the police who wheeled him away.

Finally his big chance for fame came when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent (and a few headcases).  Simon Cowell watched with his usual distain as Neil slow-jigged his way around the stage.  He gave him a nil pois.  But the other two judges were more impressed and gave him two ticks, taking him through to the next round.

It is at the minute unclear whether he will make it, given his past track record (no pun intended).  Strictly speaking he has kept his nose clean for over two years.

But there is no getting away from the fact that poor Neil is in fact stark staring bonkers.  Lovely bloke, but a total nut-nut who has proved on more than one occasion to be highly unpredictable and dangerous.

Where will this madman strike next?  We wait with bated breath.
